According to an ancient folk legend a dragon, which it was given curiously the name of Taranto, more commonly known as Tarantasio, would have hauted Lago Gerundo's water.
He terrorized people of the area and in particular it was believed that he devoured children, smashed boats and with his fumes he infected the air and he was due to deadly epidemics. Many legends were born around this dragon, which are all linked by the conjunction between the killing of Taranto and the draining of the lake.
There are several interesting facts on the dragon Tarantasio: would be the "snake Visconti" the coat of arms of the House, because one of the versions wants the dragon, the Dante's "viper that the Milanese camp", murdered by Umberto Visconti. This version was then taken up by the City of Milan and in times more 'recent Mediaset, Inter, Alfa Romeo. Legend of the Dragon Lake Gerundo was an inspiration to the sculptor Luigi Broggini, who used Tarantasio to design the image of the six-legged dog, Eni's symbol.
